FavorPrepâ„¢ Blood/Cultured Cell Total RNA Purification Maxi Kits is similar to the Qiagen 74104, 74106 and 52304 kits. They are designed for purification of total RNA from cultured cells and fresh whole blood using the chaotropic salt-lysis method without the use of hazardous solvents such as phenol.  The purified RNA is suitable for direct use in RT-PCR, Northern blotting, primer extension and cDNA library construction.

Procedure
The method uses detergents and a chaotropic salt to lyse cells and inactivates RNase. RNA in chaotropic salt is bonded to the glass fiber matrix of column.  After washing off the contaminants, the purified RNA is eluted by RNase-free water.  The entire procedure can be completed about 30-60 minutes.
